That would be cool, giving players the ability to traverse the fourth dimension (time.)
Some games have skills or potions that allow a player to "speed up" WRT the other players. Well, you know that -- you're the RPG maven.
The ultimate "speed up" would be to freeze the action, like in Terry Pratchett's "The Thief of Time." (Since you're on dial-up, you probably wouldn't notice if some player froze you anyway.)
Going into the future... Well, you could log off and then log back on. That puts you into the future. Otherwise, I don't care if you're in a virtual reality -- causality must be obeyed.
Going back in time would certainly be possible. I would offer two versions:
1. a dream-like experience where the player can only view the past -- not interact with it. 2. an actual roll-back-the-clock mode that you could change history in, only you couldn't go back into more than one past at a time.
