AAAAAAAAAAA.....rgh...
Aug. 2nd, 2006 01:25 amI... HATE... ... ........ ..... ... microsoft......
Ugh. I'm posting from my kid sister's PC... I had to email myself the Internet Explorer setup file (ie6setup.exe) because I couldn't find or properly install a decent browser on this computer (my old one, she's using it for now). Why, you ask? Well cuz as usual I'm running Windows 98 on this thing, a fresh install as of today, and IE 4.0 was the default browser. And it sucks terribly. Well, okay, nobody's websites are compatable with it anymore, including Microsoft's! Actually, one site did work okay: Yahoo Mail noticed I couldn't see their site properly and let me default to some outdated layout. I'm glad the web-setup exe worked after I snagged it back from my inbox (and had to rename it as it saved as some random 8 letters and no extension)... otherwise I was pretty much out of ideas. update.microsoft.com would only give me a blank page after two script errors.
Sooo... much better now. Critical updates done, downloading antivirus and junk, IE6 is workin' like a charm (I couldn't even get Firefox with IE4). Egh. Evil evil evil evil evil evil.
As for my new PC, the tower
blackmanta gave me with it's assortment of parts is working well enough to run EverQuest. Only blue screen of death it gives me is when I try to shut Windows down. Meh. I'm only running 512 RAM in it at the moment (one stick) because both sticks together cause random BSODs and shut the system down. BLEH. But as it is, my machine runs EQ better than the parental units' eMachine so... something must be working right. Plus it's running XP. At least Microsoft still supports that.
Edit: Bad things happen when you're bored.
