this is why I feel better:
Apr. 17th, 2005 05:52 amFirst, the necessary background: I used to have horrible nightmares about getting chased by hot lava. It was like... my arch nemesis or something. Then one day probably a year ago or so I said to myself, "This is silly. Next time, I'm just gonna jump right in." And the next lava dream I had I remembered what I wanted to do, and I did it. o_O *splash* It was kinda like jumping into nice warm water... and my fear of lava was *pff* gone.
Well... I was still afraid of tornados. I get them in dreams quite often >( so after the whole lava thing, I'm like, I can do this! I'll take on tornados next! Next tornado dream I'm in this farmhouse in the middle of a huge flat field.. had to have been about 10 tornados surrounding the place... only one was close though, and happened to be near the window I was at. I said, "COME GET ME YOU BASTARD!!" or something like that. Well, uh, it came straight at me. It started ripping up the window and I got hit by shards of stuff and it HURT!! I have a way of waking myself up from dreams and I used it... and was so disappointed and unhappy about that... I hadn't defeated the tornados in my dreams, and now I was more scared of them than ever.
Well, last night I dreamed about a tornado again (and remember, yesterday my mood was so bad... well, I felt like I was losing everything or being defeated by life in general). o_O So here I am in dreamland, at some sort of big yard sale / swap meet thing... lots of people under open air, with buildings around the perimeter. Suddenly it started raining so hard it hurt and it was hard to see (almost like being underwater in murky water). There was an Asian guy next to me (kinda reminds me of my next-door neighbor) and he looked behind me and looked really scared and started running away.
I looked behind me and it was even harder to see... but there was a tornado coming into the swap meet area. It was of course insanely hard to run at this point... water all over the place and what not... but I raaaaaaaaaaan. I got out of that area, and ran past a farmhouse, out into the field beyond it, and there's like.. piles of dog crap (or something like that) all over the place and here as I'm trying to keep running and dodge the little landmines, I'm thinking... Wouldn't it be better to just flat out run? Even if I do step in something? About that time though the ground was much clearer... I was looking for a ditch or something to lie in, but there weren't any, just a lot of wet, grassy ground. It had stopped raining at least, but I knew the tornado was following me.
At about this time my brother Jamie shows up, and two little kids (about 2 and 5-ish)... don't think it was a reference to my kid sister and brother cuz they were both white (my kid siblings are adopted and black). There's a road off to the left, and since I'm not finding a ditch (houses as means of escape have not worked in previous dreams), I figure we'd try the road... so we get to the road and there's this huge 6ft deep, 10 ft wide or so ditch, like there's been construction that isn't finished. It was a funky reddish-orange dirt in the ditch too, and it had been raked into nice lines parallel to the road (dreams are so weird).. it also was fairly dry, which makes no sense..
We jump in, and find that right along the road they've dug so deep that there are some metal bars and stuff we can hold onto (probably doesn't make sense from a real construction standpoint) but we were looking for something to hold onto anyways so we weren't about to question it. I had both kids at this point, and was trying to work out how to hold onto the bars with them in my arms, so we'd be snug against the anchoring stuff and I wouldn't lose anybody. Jamie was right by me, and about when we figured we could stand the tornado hitting, it ran right over us.
I looked up. o_O I saw the inside of the tornado.. (ever see Twister?) and it was odd cuz it was kinda peaceful. Just a little twirly bit of air going up the middle, and the fierce outside walls were now not an issue because they were around us, not coming at us. I said "Hey everybody, look! Look up!" and they did. I don't really remember what happened to the tornado but it was gone shortly thereafter. And I knew somewhere deep inside I'd defeated it. What a feeling that was. ^_^ The rest of the dream got stupid and isn't important... but the whole thing was... quite interesting. o_O

Date: Apr. 18th, 2005 04:29 pm (UTC)I used to have lucid dreams when I was in my early twenties. But mostly I'd just fly around in them.
Glad you're better!
