I memorized Vincent's Theme ("The Nightmare Begins") from Final Fantasy VII today. W00T! And last night I pulled a Dumb and Dumber. What I mean by that is that the first time I watched Dumb and Dumber I absolutely hated it. The words "absolutely hated" didn't even begin to describe my loathing of the movie. The second time I watched it, for whatever reason, I think I had been up somewhere beyond 24 hours and had consumed a large amount of sugar. I thought it was the funniest movie in the world and about died laughing, and have loved it ever since. Teh wierdness, eh?
Well, those of you who know me well have heard me rant on and on about the movie Pitch Black. (You can see it coming, can't ya?) But I shall leave off the general ranting because I finally decided to watch it again last night. It was on the Sci Fi channel and I was bored, so what the hey? Besides, since I am now a hopeless Riddick nut and have beaten the game and put The Chronicles Of Riddick atop my list of all-time favorite movies... I was a little curious on Riddick's role in Pitch Black.
The first time I watched Pitch Black was when it was released to DVD, and The Chronicles of Riddick didn't exist, unless Vinny was already pondering the thought. I found the characters shallow, the plot awful, etc etc blah blah. All I remember was "Hey, the bad guy is pretty damn cool!" But I lost interest after about fifteen minutes and only vaguely paid attention as I think I resorted to playing EverQuest or something. The movie didn't improve, and I was left with "I hate that movie, what a waste of time."
180 degree time. I like this movie. I didn't realize how big a role Vin Diesel had in it. You have to remember, he wasn't quite so famous back then. And as I love Riddick's character and he seems to be the main character in Pitch Black, the movie was much more watchable the second time around. I still think the captain lady is a major flip flop ditz. And most of the characters were still rather shallow and self-centered. But at least I can enjoy this movie now. Thanks Vinny. And thanks Sci Fi for giving me another chance. Cuz the more information I have on my number one obsession character (Riddick *grin*) the better. Maybe that's why I liked the movie so much... it did have a little of the background I was looking for. So yeah, Pitch Black. Good stuff.
