LOL! Yeah, well I always figured the way Shredder was so wussy in the old cartoon that it wouldn't surprise me if he was Krang's bitch. Glad he's much more threatening in the new one tho, as he should be.
Just so you know, the new TMNT show is much more faithful to the original comics they were based on than the 80's show was. That...that was just an abomination. :P
I guess it all depends on which version of TMNT you were exposed to first. Me, I read the comics first, coming to my attention as they did when Metallica thanked them in their liner notes for Master of Puppets. I figured, "Hey! Any comic that was liked enough by Metallica to be thanked has got to be pretty kick ass!" I found it and I was right. The comic did kick ass...at least by the standards of a 16-year-old living in the 80's.
So when I found out that there was going to be an animated series I went, "YES!" and went about telling all my friends about TMNT and how cool it was and how they should check out the show.
And then I saw it.
And immediately I let out a Darth Vader-like cry of "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"
None of my peers said anything to me, but for a while I felt like a laughingstock and if they said anything bad about it, I apologized to them and stressed that the TV show was nothing like the comic (which it wasn't). The movie that came out in 1990 was more faithful, so I was satisfied with that, but after the sequels I felt like they still hadn't gotten it right.
So when the new cartoon came out and I saw that, and saw how much more faithful it was, down to telling story arcs adapted directly from the comic book, I was very pleased. Here were a few key differences.
* Splinter was never human! He was always Hamato Yoshi's pet rat who was later mutated.
* The Utroms were never like Krang. They were generally a benevolent race. Shredder would never have allied with them (and of course in the show it was revealed he was actually one of them!)
* The turtles liked pizza, but they never obsessed about it as much as they did on the old show.
* April O'Neil was never a reporter. She started out as Baxter Stockman's lab assistant. Speaking of which...
* Stockman was always black. He was never a white guy! The only reason I can think of as to why they made him white was because they were afraid of portraying a black man in a negative light on a kids' show.
As far as the new He-Man cartoons, I personally thought they were better than the old show. I didn't think Skeletor's voice sounded all that much different, although it certainly sounded more evil to me (although personally I always imagined he'd sound like Vincent Price with a silky-smooth refined evil sound).
